In the experience of God's people in the O.T., Egypt represents the bondage of sin, the enticement of the world and its riches. The passage through the Red Se marked Israel's liberation from the power of the Pharoah, so that resolved everything, right? As we follow the history of this people, we will find that, although Israel was no longer in Egypt, Egypt was still in Israel, exercising its power and influence. And we who celebrate our redemption from the power of sin in Christ discover that we are still in the presence of sin, not only in the world that surrounds us, but in the heart that we harbor deep within us.
