The primary objective of the Trained Observers is to dispel illusion at the mental and emotional level and bring “light of truth and understanding into dark places”. This allows the "truth" and events to be clearly seen and known and is closely connected with the spiritual Hierarchy's task of the dissipation of world illusion. He or she holds that the physical-objective plane of thought and emotion is not the highest reality man can reach.

An example of the Trained Observer in today’s world is the activity of the Journalist. This can be a professional pundit, news broadcaster, or private individual on a blog site. The Trained Observer takes thoughts already in the national conversation and openly discusses them dispassionately or objectively with the intention of presenting facts about a person or situation using various technologies: e.g. TV, Social media and the Internet.
