Mac catches up with longtime Daily Campus sportswriter and current ESPN editor Tim Fontenault about the 2014 National Championship Game against Kentucky.
In an unlikely matchup of resurgent blue bloods, UConn came into this game with a chip on its shoulder after being banned from the prior year's postseason, while Kentucky was looking to live up to its preseason No. 1 status by running the table through the tournament after an underwhelming regular season. Though Kentucky boasted an alarming advantage in size and athleticism, UConn's veteran leadership and timely shooting helped the Huskies pull off one of the most satisfying victories in program history to claim their fourth national championship.
Tim and I discuss the game, his experience covering it for the Daily Campus and it's unique place in UConn history as the spiritual end of the Jim Calhoun/Big East era. We also break down some of Shabazz Napier's most memorable moments as a Husky and a few other things that stood out upon rewatch.
