On Ecology, Responsibility, and Building in Relation
In dieser Folge sprechen wir mit Dr. Anne Rademacher, Professorin und Chair für Sustainable Urban Environments an der TU München. Mit ihrer Arbeit an der Schnittstelle von Anthropologie, Ökologie und Architektur erforscht sie, wie Städte Gerechtigkeit, Biodiversität und mehr-als-menschliche Perspektiven in ihre Gestaltung einbetten können.
Anne erklärt, was Interbeing bedeutet – ein Denken, das Verbundenheit in den Mittelpunkt stellt und klassische Nachhaltigkeits- oder Kreislauf-Narrative hinter sich lässt. Wir sprechen darüber, wie Architektur Verantwortung neu definieren kann, was passiert, wenn Böden, Flüsse oder Insekten als Mitgestalter verstanden werden, und welche neuen Maßstäbe für Wert und Erfolg sich daraus ergeben.
Außerdem geht es um die Rolle von Sprache, Lehre und Kultur: Welche Begriffe gehören aus der Architektur verabschiedet? Welche neuen Bilder und Metaphern können uns tragen? Und wie könnte ein Studio oder Planungsprozess aussehen, der Interbeing ernst nimmt?
In this episode we talk with Dr. Anne Rademacher, Professor and Chair of Sustainable Urban Environments at the Technical University of Munich. Working at the intersection of anthropology, ecology, and architecture, she explores how cities can embed justice, biodiversity, and more-than-human perspectives into their design.
Anne explains what Interbeing means – a way of thinking that places connectedness at the center and moves beyond conventional sustainability or circularity narratives. We discuss how architecture can redefine responsibility, what happens when soils, rivers, or insects are treated as co-designers, and what new measures of value and success might emerge.
We also turn to the role of language, education, and culture: Which terms should architecture leave behind? Which new metaphors and images can guide us? And what would a studio or design process look like if it took Interbeing seriously?
