Emerging on the country music scene, Ashley Barron showcases her uniquely powerful and gritty vocals during every performance. Inspired by strong women in country music like Miranda Lambert and Loretta Lynn, Barron incorporates her life experience into her songwriting to create passionate and relatable music that embodies loss, heartbreak, betrayal, and the occasional crazy night out with the girls. She’s come a long way from singing in her bedroom and participating in high school choir and music lessons in her hometown of Sacramento, California. After declining acceptance into the University of Arizona, she chose to pursue her dream—a career in country music—and vigorously began recording and performing. When it comes to her fans, Barron is an open book. In her music and as a writer, she is committed to being vulnerable and sharing her story, regardless of how painful. “I was taught to never give up, and if I can help someone push through a rough time, then I’m sharing my story.”
Perseverance paid off. Her first single, “It Might Get Loud,” came out in 2017 when she was 23 years old. In 2019, she released “Wrote a Song About It.” The following year, her single “Beer in a Bar” received critical acclaim and topped the Billboard chart at #37. Her next single, “The Wind,” a hope-filled anthem that embodies the spirit of a strong woman who perseveres regardless of the circumstances, debuted on the Billboard chart at #59 and was the second song added on country radio, eventually making its way to #37. Her single, “Let Me Go,” was added to the Top 30 on the Music Row singles chart. Barron worked with the executive producer of Rascal 3 Creative, Jimmy Lynch, on her music video for “Let Me Go,” which played nationwide on TCN, Music Choice, and GAC. Released in September 2021, Barron’s self-titled album reached over a million streams in the first month. In December 2022, Barron released an original Christmas song, “Walmart Cart Christmas,” which had more than 300 spins and was played on 40+ radio stations. During the summer of 2021, Barron had the opportunity to tour with and open for the legendary T. Graham Brown. She has also opened for other artists, including Dylan Scott, Maddie & Tae, Tyler Farr, and Craig Campbell.
Step into Ashley Barron’s triumph and betrayal with her single “Betrayed,” the first single from her upcoming debut album, Checkmate. In this musical journey, the rising country artist invites listeners into a world where fierce moves are weaponized with melodies and lyrics that play perfectly like pieces on a chessboard. In this sonic game of love and life, “Betrayed” serves as the opening move, setting the stage for a journey of conquest over personal challenges, where every song is a strategic move and the ultimate victory is found in self-discovery.

Formed in 2018, Goddamn Wolves is an indie rock trio from Raleigh, North Carolina. The band draws influence from classic alternative rock bands like the Replacements and Pixies as well as current indie acts like A Giant Dog and together PANGEA. Goddamn Wolves is led by singer/guitarist/songwriter Chris Weilding (formerly of Hedwig and the Angry Inch band Cheater), Laura McCullough (bass/vocals), and Drew Foglia (drums/vocals). The band has released three EP’s – Goddamn Wolves, Dauphine and Resign Yourself. The latter was recorded with engineer extraordinaire Missy Thangs at Fidelitorium Recordings in Kernersville, NC. The Wolves have also recorded three singles with up-and-coming artists/engineers Max Gowan and Travis Harrington at Found After Dark Studio. The latest, “Older, Slower” b/w “Everything Real Is Free” represents a new collaborative height for the band – with Laura stepping up to contribute more vocals and lyrics to round out the band’s unique male/female vocal dynamic. Goddamn Wolves continue to gig at local Raleigh clubs and played a Day Party at this year’s Hopscotch Music Festival. They are looking to play some regional shows throughout the South in the spring.
“Older, Slower” was released on January 5th. It represents a new height in collaboration for our band. In the past our sound included a male/female vocal dynamic in the form of backing vocals from bass player Laura. Now the band has leaned into this dynamic with Laura taking on co-lead vocals and contributing more lyrics than before. This is a result of positive response to this aspect of the band as well as our love of bands like X, the New Pornographers, Versus and A Giant Dog. And of course, the song also features drummer Drew’s famous falsetto. 🙂

Sean Nestor of Homicide Black and Half Wheel will be joining me tonight to feature 2 songs. The first song is “Black in Your Eyes” by Homicide Black and the second one is “Me & You” by Half Wheel. Sean is in both of those bands as well as a few others that we play, including Scarlot O’Hara and Silk9. We touch on all of those bands ( and a bunch of others), Mike Ofca, Rock for Life Concert Series, Fostering Music, 97.7 The Rock Station, The Grass Roots Show and the the Grassy Award and so, so much more.
Black In Your Eyes – Reminiscent of a Maiden-esque gallop with a nice Randy Rhodes-ish interlude. Music written by our good friend Danny Corso of Sacred Dominion. Danny called us and told us he wrote an Homicide Black tune and wanted dual guitars. Jazz and I listened, wrote the lyrics and brought Danny over for a marathon session.
Me & You – hALF wHEEL tune written by Jazz. Has a bit of a Zeppelin vibe and is always a blast to play live. Shot a video for it too. Nice, outdoorsy cabin and a peaceful sunny day.
