PODCAST. My girlfriend said she’d rather have chocolate than sex. Good thing her passion comes with surprising health benefits and melt-in-your-mouth flavor. Chocolate’s always been popular for its taste and mouth feel. It’s been deemed the most craved food particularly by women who feel they’ve been given permission to pamper themselves without guilt.
Personally I never met a chocolate I don’t like…well, white chocolate but then technically, it’s not the real deal.
Reasons it’s ok to crave chocolate.
Red wine and green tea are good for you because they contain compounds called flavonoids which are also found naturally in guess what…cocoa beans and chocolate. These flavonoids may have benefits that include improved blood flow, reduced blood pressure and lower lousy or LDL cholesterol.
Research is being conducted to determine whether dark chocolate could provide similar benefits to beetroot juice for elite athletics. One of the compounds in dark chocolate increases the production of nitric oxide in the body causing blood vessel dilation and reducing oxygen consumption. This may help athletes maintain their pace for a longer period of time.
