The discussion will talk about 3 possible reasons for a lack of promotion. 1- Lack of skills or qualifications. You have to be a life-long learner who constantly upgrades your skills by taking courses, trainings, etc. that will put you in a position to being promoted. 2- Limited visibility and communication. You have to toot your own horn concerning your professional achievements, awards, etc. and communicate this to your manager(s). You cannot just keep your nose to the ground working, but be visible by participating in meetings, sharing information, volunteering to be on a committee or task force, etc. You want crucial decision-makers to recognize your value to the organization. 3- Poor performance or poor attitude. As a professional, you want to exceed management's expectations. You want to be timely in your assignments, a strong work ethic, a good team player, dependable and working with a spirit of excellence. Your attitude will determine your altitude. Having a positive mindset, not speaking ill of senior leadership or the organization and working collaboratively with colleagues will take you far in your career.
