We are often required to express our opinions, in social settings, school or workplace, etc.
Last week I talked about the introspection of my English exam but there was one question I couldn't answer well in the exam. It was "The medical insurance should cover the prescription medication. what do you think?" I feel like the question itself is not too too hard to answer because we can at least understand the question, but the most difficult part of answering this type of question is to come up with the reason and examples to support my idea because it has to be something I can explain in English.
By the way, I responded" I couldn't agree more with the statement. The main reason for this is that the cost of prescription medication depends on what disease you suffer. Some diseases may require way more expensive medicine than others. Medical treatment has to be fair to all as human rights, so from that perspective, it should be covered by national insurance. I understand some people disagree with this but, many would understand the situation. The other reason is,"
then it was cut off due to the time limit of 90 seconds. What do you think? Ideally, the number of ideas should be at least two, and having a conclusion was necessary. I think the quality of the answer was not bad. but obviously, there were a lot of poses and hesitation. That's the problem.
Then I was thinking of any tips to express opinions. Let me share 3 tips to improve the answer whenever you are confused about responding or nothing comes up in your mind.
No.1, Tell why the opposing opinion is not preferable. If you don't come up with any idea to support your idea, anyreason why you don't support the other. which is versatile because you should have something to say at least one.
for example, in this case, probably I could say "If the prescription expenses are not covered, some might give up their treatment due to high cost." or "Because now the prescription coverage is not effective, some are giving up their medicine."
No.2, Tell your related experience.
for example, "Last month I didn't purchase an eyedrop for dry eye because it is not covered. "or "I was upset when I was first time charged 200 bucks for the one-time medicine."
This is also practical because this doesn't have to be right, just state your relevant experience.
No.3, Make up any.
you can also create any story roughly. for example, "My mother paid 1000 but my friend only paid 100 for the same symptom. " something like that, can be formidable but still effective.
That's it for today's episode.
Now I think I can do better next time for any time I find it hard to respond to any question of expressing an opinion.
I am glad if you have any ideas to share with me.
