For many, the riots simply boiled down to greed. However, the problem with this perspective is that the spacial dynamics, reactions, and aftermath of the riots reveal a struggle for control between the people and state. The riots were about more than looting and violence, essentially they became a dispute over the streets - territory which belongs to no man.
