Rink Stories

#30 - Steve Seftel, former NHL Player and author of Shattered Ice

Listen Later

This week we welcome Steve Seftel, a  6’3”left winger out of Kitchener Ontario, who made it all the way to the NHL after the Washington Capitals selected him in the 2nd round of the 1986 draft. His 2019 book, Shattered Ice, details, in lively fashion, the long arc of his hockey and life journey.  The boys discuss: Steve's decision to write the book; starting out on the outdoor rinks of Kichener Ontario; rising through the ranks on legendary teams like the Kitchener Greenshirts, Kingston Canadians, and Baltimore Skipjacks; starting across from Bob Probert in his first NHL game; a years-long battle with mental illness; finding gratitude for his accomplishments in hockey; rediscovering joy in tying up the skates again; and other topics.

Plus our usual fun and funny stuff.
