Session 304: Cosmic Errands and the Big Illusion
Recorded November 28, 1966.
The "Reality is a Bestseller" Vibe
Seth started the night by basically telling everyone to relax because death isn't actually a thing. According to him, we are all just very intense Method Actors in a three-dimensional play.
- The World is a Prop: Seth explains that we create physical matter and then perceive it. If there weren’t a purpose for it, it wouldn't even exist as an illusion.
- The Book Metaphor: He compares our physical existence to an "excellent book, given to you by a teacher." Just because you realize you're the main character in a book doesn't mean you should throw the book away or stop reading!
- No Finality: Exploration is creation. There’s no "finish line" or final destination. As Seth says: "There is indeed no place to go... but the very word is brings forth a multiplicity of existences."
- Treat People Gently: Since death is an illusion, some "gods" might think killing doesn't matter, but Seth reminds us that while we’re in these bodies, we have to treat living things gently. Basically, don't be a jerk just because reality is a hologram.
The Ego: Your Soul's Personal Assistant
Seth gave a shout-out to the ego, which usually gets a bad rap in spiritual circles.
- Don't Fire the Ego: Seth insists the ego shouldn't be "shunted aside." It’s the "director of physical activities" and, if it’s properly trained and follows its intuition, it's actually great for survival.
- The Whole Self: You are already in contact with your "Entity" or true self. You never actually left it, even though you’re currently off exploring the physical system like a tourist.
The Great Shopping List Experiment
The 78th "envelope object" experiment was a classic. Rob (Joseph) put a shopping list in a double-sealed envelope to see if Seth could guess the contents.
- The Scramble: Seth picked up on a "scramble, as of events" and even mentioned "eggs." Hilariously, the group had literally just eaten scrambled eggs for breakfast with their guests, the Bernards, the day before.
- Colors and Art: Seth saw "blues and yellows." While the list was on white paper, the batteries Jane needed were red, blue, and yellow, and Jane’s own supplemental list was on yellow paper with blue ink. Plus, the list included art supplies for Rob’s paintings.
- The Florida Connection: Seth got a bit sidetracked by thoughts of a woman, a child, and Florida (Marie Tubbs). It turns out their guests, the Bernards, had just been to Florida and Jane was mailing them a forgotten sweater!
- The Package: Seth saw a rectangular shape and something "divided into four divisions." Rob later realized this looked exactly like the way he wraps packages with string crossing in the middle.
- The Verdict: Even though Jane thought she flopped, Seth was actually picking up a "scramble" of the whole week's vibes—handwriting, packages, art supplies, and those elusive batteries.
Before signing off, Seth left us with a few tips for staying psychically grounded:
- Privacy is Key: Seth advised Jane and Rob not to join any planned "communities" just yet. Their work needs to be private and stable.
- Psychic Protection: Seth explicitly mentioned: "I protect you both in psychic matters... and of course in other affairs when I think protection necessary." Talk about having a heavy-hitter in your corner!
- Inward Focus: He suggested a "specific dedication" and taking a few moments to turn inward before sessions to keep the connection clean.
