Lilka Elbaum was enjoying her life in post-war Poland, when in 1968, at the age of 21, her family was thrown out during the Communist Wave that overtook Eastern Europe. Although she has been able to return to her hometown Lodz many times since, her last visit brought filmmaker Slawomir Grunberg with her adventure to document her memories - in particular a still life painting that hung in her apartment. Her stark memories are on full display in Still Life in Lodz, being released on March 12th.
