Today we chat about a reel I saw on Instagram from Jay Shetty, where he says success and happiness are two different paths. If you think success will make you happy, you're wrong.
Transcript:
Welcome to Everyday Happiness, where we create lasting happiness in two-ish minutes a day through my signature method of Intentional Margins® (creating harmony between your to-dos and your priorities), happiness science, and musings about life.
I'm your host, Katie Jefcoat, and I was watching a reel on Instagram. I mean, we're all watching reels nowadays, right? So this reel was from Jay Shetty, where he says success and happiness are two different paths. If you think success will make you happy, you're wrong.
He says success is great, but happiness has to be equally pursued, and it's a completely different path. He also says that becoming successful is not going to make you more joyful. Well, that's insightful, right? And I couldn't agree more.
So many of us chase the success, the job promotion, the amount of followers on our social media that we think quantifies our success. But in fact, none of that matters if we are also not pursuing happiness. So we need to pursue both paths. How do we do that?
Well, we can start with a gratitude habit. Three different gratitudes every single day, written down on a piece of paper. That can be a great way to start to boost our happiness. Of course, we can take it a step further and be extra kind to someone. Make it a habit of sending a voice text or a postcard to someone every single day that's on your mind.
Think about how that could not only boost your happiness, but have a ripple effect in so many ways. So I'm curious, if you were going to start to take a step on that happiness path, what would be your first step? Tell me over on social at @everydayhappinesswithkatie. I can't wait to hear what you're your first step is.
