Our Scripture passage for this Sunday comes from the Gospel of Matthew 22:34–40. This text tells of the Lawyer’s challenge for Jesus to identify the “greatest” commandment, to which the Lord responds by offering the joint instruction to love God and neighbor. This passage appears to be very simple on the surface, yet it offers some profound challenges for discipleship.
