During WWI two notorious laws would be passed. The Espionage and Sedition Acts would drastically limit the freedom of speech and prohibit Americans from criticizing the war, the draft, and even the government itself. Amazingly, when challenged, the Supreme Court defended these as not contradictory of the 1st Amendment! Today we discuss Schenk v. US and some of the absurd aftermath of these laws.
