3/1 Georgia Weather 6 AM: 45° Above Normal

Listen Later

Good morning. Georgia. I'm Aaron Jolly.
Folks, if you're staring out the window right now thinking your eyes haven't adjusted yet. They have. That's fog. Dense fog has draped itself across central and southern Georgia like a wet blanket. Visibility is a quarter mile or less in spots. A Dense Fog Advisory runs until 10 A.M. so if you're heading to church or brunch, slow down and leave early.
In the next 24 hours. Now here's the good news. High pressure is parked right over us. Once that fog burns off by mid morning, we're talking pure sunshine and temperatures that feel like mid April. Metro Atlanta hits 76 degrees this afternoon. That's a full 45 degrees above normal for the first day of March. Head east toward Augusta and you'll touch 78. Down along the coast, the fog hangs on a little longer, but once it clears you're looking at a beautiful 73 degrees. Tonight, clouds creep back in and lows settle into the lower 50s.
Enjoy every minute of it. Because tomorrow flips the script. A wedge of high pressure slides south from New England, dragging cooler air behind it. Monday's highs barely crack the lower 60s in Atlanta. Easterly winds gusting to 20 or 25 miles an hour will make it feel even chillier. That's a 45 degrees drop in one day.
Quick note for central Georgia. The Oconee River near Oconee is under a Flood Warning through Tuesday evening. Minor flooding, but worth watching.
Looking ahead. Tuesday and Wednesday bounce right back into the 70s. Then Thursday and Friday? Low 80s across much of the state. That's borderline summer. Rain chances return late week with a few thunderstorms possible Thursday into Saturday.
One more thing worth smiling about. We're gaining over two minutes of daylight each day now. Sunrise at 7:07. Sunset at 6:35. Spring is winning.
I'll be tracking that midweek warm up all week long.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.

Stay safe, stay prepared. and enjoy the day.
