Good afternoon. Georgia. I'm Aaron Jolly.
Folks, if you stepped outside this morning and couldn't see your neighbor's house. You weren't dreaming. Dense fog blanketed central and south Georgia. By 10 A.M. The sun burns it off. and what's waiting behind that fog? One of the prettiest days we've had in weeks.
In the next 24 hours. High pressure is parked right on top of us. Think of it as a giant warm blanket draped over the entire state. That's why temperatures are climbing into the mid to upper 70s this afternoon. Metro Atlanta tops out at 76 degrees. Head east toward Augusta and you're touching 78. Down along the coast, a gentle easterly breeze keeps things a touch cooler at 72 degrees. Still gorgeous.
Now. Enjoy every minute of this. Because tonight a cold front sneaks through while you're sleeping. Then something interesting happens. High pressure building south from New England creates a wedge pattern. Cool air gets dammed up against the Appalachians like water behind a wall. Monday morning you wake up to a completely different state. Atlanta only reaches 63 degrees. Eastern Georgia matches that. The coast holds at 65 with gusty northeast winds.
Tonight expect mostly cloudy skies. Lows settle into the lower 50s statewide.
One important note. If you're near the Oconee River in Washington. Johnson, or Wilkinson counties, minor flooding is forecast by early Monday morning. That warning runs through Tuesday evening. Keep an eye on it.
Looking ahead. Tuesday and Wednesday bring the warmth roaring back into the 70s. By Thursday and Friday we're flirting with 80 degrees. That's a solid 49 degrees above normal for early March. Late week brings scattered storms back into the picture.
Spring equinox is just 19 days out. We're gaining two minutes of daylight every single day now. Today feels like spring sent us a preview.
Charge up those phones and get outside while you can. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
