Good morning. New York. I'm Aaron Jolly.
March is walking in with a snowflake in one hand. and a deep freeze in the other.
In the next 24 hours.,
A cold front blew through overnight. and a weak disturbance is riding its coattails. That's what's dropping light snow across the state right now. The snow won't amount to much. but what follows? That's the real headline. Temperatures are about to nosedive.
Down in the city, snow develops around 7 A.M. and sticks around through midday. Less than half an inch. Highs touch 38 degrees. Nothing dramatic. but tonight the arctic air floods in. Lows crash to 22 degrees. Wind chills by early morning? Thirteen degrees. That kind of cold finds every zipper you forgot to close.
Up in the Capital Region, snow showers fly between 5 and 10 A.M. Highs only hit 30 degrees. Then tonight gets wild. Albany plummets to 4 degrees. That's a 26 degrees swing in twelve hours. Your car won't appreciate that.
Over in Western New York, a few morning flurries give way to partly sunny skies. Don't let the sun fool you. Highs stall at 24 degrees. Overnight drops to 10. Central New York runs a similar playbook. Snow early, some sun, highs near 24, lows around 6 degrees.
Monday brings wall to wall sunshine but stays frigid. Then Tuesday flips the script. A warm front pushes north, turning snow to rain. Could get a wintry mix in spots. and from there? The warming trend takes off. Highs climb from the 30s Tuesday all the way to near 60 degrees by Saturday. With that kind of melt, ice jams on rivers become a real concern by Friday.
Oh. and we're gaining nearly three minutes of daylight every day now. Spring equinox is just 19 days out.
Charge your phone before bed tonight. Cold batteries die fast.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
