3/1 New York Weather Noon: Snow

Listen Later

Good afternoon. New York. I'm Aaron Jolly.
That dusting on your windshield? That's a cold front saying goodbye. You picked up about two tenths of an inch overnight. but the snow isn't the story. The air rushing in behind it's.
In the next 24 hours., A Canadian high pressure system is muscling south right now. Snow tapers off by late morning. Then the sky clears and the temperature falls off a cliff. By tonight, upstate New York is in the deep freeze. The Capital Region bottoms out around 4 degrees. Central New York dips to 6. Western New York holds near 10. Even the city drops to 22, with wind chills around 11 by early Monday morning. That's the kind of cold that stings your face before you reach the subway.
Monday brings sunshine but zero warmth behind it. Highs struggle to reach 24 in the Capital Region. The city tops out around 31. Bright and bitter.
Now Tuesday. Tuesday is where this gets interesting. A warm front lifts north and the atmosphere can't decide what it wants to be. Snow changes to sleet, then freezing rain, then plain rain. If you commute Tuesday morning, give yourself extra time. The roads could be a mess.
Looking further out, the pattern completely flips midweek. Temperatures climb into the 40s Wednesday, push past 50 by Thursday. By next weekend we're flirting with 60 degrees. but that warmth comes with a price. Multiple rounds of rain roll through Wednesday into Saturday.
One more thing worth noting. We're gaining nearly three minutes of daylight every day now. The spring equinox is just 19 days out. Winter is throwing its last real punch tonight. After that, it's all momentum toward spring.
Folks, charge your phone before bed tonight. Cold batteries die fast.
