3/1 Southern California Weather Noon: Wind Advisory

Listen Later

Good afternoon. Southern California. I'm Aaron Jolly.
So here's what's happening. A fading high pressure ridge is squeezing out one last blast of summer before a trough rolls in and slams the door shut. and folks, that blast is impressive. The Inland Empire hits 87 degrees this afternoon. In March. That's flirting with record territory.
In the next 24 hours. Greater Los Angeles peaks around 82 degrees near 1 P.M. You'll feel that dry desert warmth on your skin. Down in San Diego County, the onshore flow sneaks in earlier, capping things at a still pleasant 78 degrees.
Now. The mountains and desert passes are a different animal today. Gusts of 35 to 45 miles an hour are ripping through. A Wind Advisory covers the Western Mojave Desert through Monday evening. If you're driving the Cajon Pass, keep both hands on the wheel.
Central Coast, quick note for you. Dense fog sticks around until 10 A.M. Visibility drops to a quarter mile in spots. Slow down and use those low beams.
Tonight the marine layer creeps inland like a cold blanket. Lows settle to 53 degrees in L.A., 55 in San Diego, 54 in the Inland Empire. Partly cloudy skies take over.
Monday feels like a completely different season. That trough sweeps through and temperatures crash 47 degrees to 47 degrees. L.A. Barely touches 73. San Diego holds at 68. The Inland Empire drops to 75. That's a 47 degrees freefall from today.
The cooling trend locks in through Monday. Tuesday bounces back briefly into the upper 70s. Then Wednesday brings another round of gusty winds and cooler air. Next weekend, high pressure rebuilds with gradual warming. Still no rain on the horizon.
UV index is high today, so slather on sunscreen before you step outside. and we're gaining over two minutes of daylight each day now. Spring equinox. Just 19 days away.
I'll be tracking that wind advisory all evening. Stay tuned.
