31. What If?
What if in the end - I wasn’t let in, through the old pearly gates?
What if I didn’t even get-a…
“Stand over there… sir, and wait”?
If this life of toil, this life of mine
did not measure up on the scales of the Divine?
Food stamp lines confused life… as a grind,
to a fragile young mind that now cannot unwind.
A life spent grappling for more.
From friends, to girls, to sports, to stores.
From money to pleasure to pride to my drawers.
I always seek the fight, whether it was needed or not.
Fights with those that I love, and those I’ve forgot.
Every person, every test, every instance of trying,
life became a treadmill of striving.
War-ing every challenge. On no one taking mercy.
To wake up at 40… asking “what’s with all this hurry?”
But I now see what’s the point.
I can see Just What matters.
And it’s ending my bondage to preferences and rathers.
No longer seeking ‘eternal life’ by willing it so.
But Spirit - smiles at Itself, because It knows, and I know.
That the path has been paved, victory already won.
‘Eternal-salvation’ is accomplished.
And. It will be done.
So set down preference,
seek Ye presence,
find God’s eyes in this here place.
Smile, breathe, Be!
“The kingdom of Heaven is within you”.*
And your consciousness
did not manifest to ‘rat-race’.
Instead, take a stroll with God
as the cool of the morn.
Just relax little striver,
the veil is already torn.
“Well done, good faithful Servant”**
…I sure hope I will hear…
So, I’ll meet moments
with the confidence of those words,
echoing loving-presence
eternally in my ear.
