The path to competence is paved with failure. Failure is the moment when you realize that your competence is an illusion and clarifies what you need to gain it. The problem is that so many people are afraid of failure. And fear of failure leads to mediocrity. The safest thing we can do to avoid failure is to never try at all. To achieve competence we have to become friends with failure.
