#32 - Are microtransactions in games evil? (ft Josh & Jonny)

Listen Later

This week, Coose and Mowen are joined by guests Josh & Jonny to discuss microtransactions in games. This is a very sensitive subject for all of the boys, mainly due to the fact that they all have a sordid history when it comes to self-control and in-game purchases (*cough* Mowen and dragon stones *cough*). Are microtransactions a misunderstood force for good that help keep games alive, or are they the right hand of the evil that represents RNG and in-game gambling? Without cash flow, many major game titles that are played daily by thousands of people and span across multiple platforms would find it incredibly hard to keep developers working on new content, bug fixes and important updates. Alternatively, many people find themselves consumed by the desire for the 'best' farm, or the best cards (again *cough Mowen) or to simply keep up with the games current competitive meta, but is this taking advantage of people's vulnerabilities? Do you have a soft spot for microtransactions, and have you been known to dabble in unspoken pleasures such as Fifa Points, or spend time in the rather-not-be-known gem store? Join us tonight, as we expose all of our self-control issues and more in another episode of The Gigglebytes!
