3/2 Indiana Weather: Special Weather Statement

Listen Later

Good morning. Indiana. I'm Aaron Jolly.
That messy mix falling outside? A weather disturbance sliding in from the west is stirring things up. There's a warm layer of air sitting just above the surface. and that's creating a cocktail of snow, sleet. and freezing rain across central and southern Indiana through midmorning. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 10 A.M. South of I-70.
In the next 24 hours. Central Indiana, you're waking up to 29 degrees with snow likely before 8 A.M. We could see 1 to 2 inches in a narrow band. Feels like 29 degrees early, so Dress warmly. Highs reach 42 this afternoon. and any accumulation should melt by day's end.
Northeast Indiana, you catch a break. Mostly sunny today with a high of 42. Lows tonight dip to 29 with just a slight chance of mixed precipitation overnight.
Down in Southwest Indiana, it's all rain. You're at 36 degrees with rain showers through 3 P.M. Highs top out at 44.
Northern Indiana, you've got the best day. Sunny skies and a high of 42. Dry conditions through tonight.
Now here's where things get interesting. A major pattern shift is coming. A stalled boundary lifts north Tuesday, opening the door to Gulf moisture. Rain moves in and stays with us through Saturday. Temperatures climb dramatically — we're talking highs in the 60s by Wednesday and approaching 70 degrees by Friday. The trade-off? Two to three inches of rain possible, with some areas seeing even more. River flooding could become a concern late week.
Spring equinox is about two weeks away, but spring-like warmth arrives early this year.
