Listen Later

On  May 24th, 1935, in broad daylight in Tacoma, Washington, George H. Weyerhaeuser, age nine, was stolen from the street by an unknown assailant. His kidnappers sent a letter to the Weyerhaeuser family in which they demanded $200,000 in exchange for the boy's safe return. On June 1st, George Weyerhaeuser was released from prison in rural Issaquah when his father, John Philip Weyerhaeuser Jr., paid the ransom. The largest manhunt in the history of the Pacific Northwest was launched by an army of federal, state, and local law enforcement personnel working together.
