Most of us measure progress using metrics like confidence, momentum, or even recognition. But those are lagging indicators. They’re not the input — they’re the output. You can’t chase confidence directly any more than you can chase happiness.
In this episode, I’d break down how focusing on these lagging indicators puts you in a reactive mindset. If your confidence goes up when you play well, and down when you struggle — then you’re letting the result govern your process. Instead, reverse it: find the inputs. What are you doing when you feel most in rhythm? What reps, what mindset, what conversations, what preparation?
Success is downstream of consistent, high-quality input. You can’t control the lagging indicator, but you can design for it.
