This is John Bodkin Adams, a British physician who was accused of murdering his patients, in what was at that time called the murder trial of the century. Was it gross incompetence or serial mercy killer? It is still argued over, but the facts are that this case changed protections around physicians. But there’s lots of inappropriate boundaries, eating cake in surgery, and some all around weirdness.
