325 Stop Feeding Your Symptoms With Attention

Session 325 Seth’s Vibes on Health and Reality

Welcome back to the cosmic lounge, everyone. Today we are diving into a classic sit-down with our favorite non-physical teacher, Seth. This session is a real gem for anyone trying to figure out why their body is acting up and how to tell their brain to chill out. We are looking at Session 325 of The Early Sessions Book 7 of the Seth Material, recorded on the evening of March 13, 1967.

Seth is basically giving Ruburt (Jane) and Joseph (Rob) a spiritual "get well soon" card, but with a lot more homework and fewer flowers.

Stop Staring at the Owies: The Power of Concentration

Seth makes it pretty clear: if you spend all day checking to see if you’re still sick, you’re basically RSVPing "yes" to the illness every single morning.

  • Symptoms as Bad Habits: Seth explains that even after the "critical part" of an illness is over, the leftover symptoms are just "residue, acting on habit patterns." You’ve got to erase the tape.
  • The Reinforcement Trap: Seth drops some truth here: "When you concentrate on a symptom you reinforce it." If you’re poking a sore hand to see if it still hurts, you’re not helping.
  • The Distraction Method: The goal isn't to play pretend and act like the symptom isn't there, but to "quite deliberately give yourself constructive suggestion, and turn your attention immediately away quickly to other matters."

Changing the Scene: Dancing and Fish Friday

Sometimes, the walls of your apartment are just as guilty as your brain. Seth suggests a change of scenery to break the cycle.

  • The Apartment Vibes: The apartment itself has "recognition of the symptoms." Basically, the furniture remembers you being sick. Getting out for a "spontaneous, pleasant adventure" is the best medicine.
  • The Friday Funk: Seth notes that Ruburt was feeling weird on Fridays because of an old Catholic habit regarding not eating meat. Apparently, the "fish being an act of denial" was still messing with his energy.
  • Dress for Success: Seth actually recommends that Ruburt should wear clothes he used to dance well in. It's all about triggering those "I feel great" memories. Just stay away from Ida’s clothes—apparently, she has back issues, and those vibes are contagious.

The Dream Gym: Projection and Practice

Seth isn't just about physical health; he wants Joseph and Ruburt to start exploring the "astral" neighborhood through projection.

  • Dream Training: Seth says the dream state is the perfect "practice" range for leaving your body. He mentions that "The training in manipulation of consciousness of this kind is invaluable."
  • The Three Types: There are at least three different kinds of projections to experience in dreams that make "waking" experiences easier.
  • The Alarm Clock Trick: Seth suggests suggesting to yourself that you’ll wake up right after a projection to write it down. It’s the best way to keep your "other" life from getting mixed up with standard dreams.

Joseph’s Job: Don’t Be a Pity Party

Seth has some direct advice for Joseph (Rob) on how to be a supportive partner without making things worse.

  • Praise, Don’t Pity: "Your own attitude is also important... It should not involve pity, for this reinforces the symptoms, but should involve a confident assurance."
  • The "Ingenuity" Clause: Joseph needs to use his brain to divert Ruburt’s attention when he starts obsessing over symptoms. It’s about being a master of distraction.
