Welcome back to The BizLibrary Podcast! This week we're excited to bring back Libby Powers, who brings a wealth of experience in the corporate training, elearning and learning management systems.
Gamification is a new feature in the BizLibrary learning management system, but the idea of gamifying learning has been around for quite some time. We see gamification as a great training program marketing tool: as Dale Carnegie said "When nothing else works -- throw down a challenge!"
Gamification is another tool L&D can use to do exactly that - adding competition into the learning process helps learners engage with the training process.
On top of that, making learning more public, through leaderboards accomplishes two things:
1) Employees at all levels see who engages employees, including leadership. When employees understand that leadership values training and learning, they are more likely to engage in training
2) When training is public and effective, learners see how when peers develop new skills that enhance their careers. This creates an atmosphere where more people want to develop more skills to enhance their own skills.
Libby talks about the best practices in gamification in this episode, and how she sees this concept growing and evolving over time. On top of making learning a competition, many organizations are using actual games to teach - think corporate versions of The Oregon Trail, or Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing.
These trends may or may not stick around, but we believe that there are strong benefits to using gamification in your program.
When you're finished listening to this week's episode, be sure to download our related resource, "Learning Culture & Employee Engagement: 6 Ingredients for Success" This webinar will help program managers and administrators develop effective strategies to increase engagement in their learning program.
