Kirk Reflections 4th June 2023.

Rev. Erick du Toit brings today's reflection from Kirkliston Parish Church, Scotland.

THE GREAT COMMISSION

Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshipped him; but some

doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

(MATTHEW 28:16-20)

Why are we here?
What's our purpose?
And what does is entail to 'be sent'?

In following Christ we are empowered by the Spirit to go! That's an imperative. It's non-negotiable - exciting isn't it!
Making disciples, according to this passage known as the 'great commission' gives us a sense of direction. Everything we do should and must be rooted in discipleship - teaching others about Jesus and his redeeming love And also being open to be taught and discipled by others.
It's tough most of the time - but, being surrounded by a community of believers makes all the difference when growing 'in' Christ.
