In college, Marc Tamo’s goal was to intern and ultimately get a job at Alternative Tentacles to get closer to his favorite band, Neurosis. After convincing Fat Mike to be the first intern he went on to help launch the Honest Don's, a subsidiary of Fat Wreck Chords. He later moved up to help manage Phat as the label faced the decline of the punk rock’s mainstream appeal and the rise of file-sharing services like Napster. With his career in music coming to an end, he found an opportunity in public relations and later discovered a talent for storytelling through videos for technology businesses. His ‘serious’ career hasn’t dampened his sense of humor and humanity, and our discussion demonstrates on how doing what you love isn’t always all it’s cracked up to be.
