Have you ever noticed how easy it is to walk past someone in need? Sometimes we tell ourselves, "It's not safe," or "Someone else will help."
Jesus told a story about this very thing, the Good Samaritan. Two religious leaders passed by a man beaten and left for dead. But a Samaritan, someone from a group despised by the Jews, stopped. He cared for the man and made sure he was safe.
The point? Compassion doesn't ask, "Do I have to help?" Compassion asks, "How can I be a neighbor?"
In a world quick to look away, Jesus calls us to stop, see, and show mercy. That's what it means to love your neighbor.
