Growing up in Portland, Kathleen Conner thought she’d become a librarian or accountant. Nicknamed Toody by her friends, it wasn’t until The Weeds’ van ran out of gas in town in the late 1960s that she met her future husband Fred Cole that she found the perfect partner in business, music and life . Over the following decades, she and Fred raised a family, owned a variety of retail businesses and made music a priority, playing around the world in The Rats, The Range Rats, Pierced Arrows and of course the legendary Dead Moon. Toody is so old school that we had to figure out a way to dial her up through Zoom, and what ensued was an inspiring talk about chasing dreams, trying to survive while homesteading in the Yukon, sharing a love of music with the young punk rockers of the Pacific Northwest and ultimately remaining DIY through the thick and thin of it all. Light a candle and settle in for an incredible conversation.
