Session 345: The Work-Thorn and the Chocolate No-Go

Welcome to the cosmic breakdown of Session 345 from The Early Sessions, Book 8 of the Seth Material, recorded on the night of June 12, 1967. Pull up a chair, grab a (non-chocolate) snack, and let’s dive into the psychic soap opera of Jane Roberts (Ruburt) and Robert Butts (Joseph). This session is all about plucking "thorns," ancestral work-guilt, and why your stomach hates you when you’re stressed.

The Great Work Breakthrough

Seth starts the night with some high-fives. Apparently, Jane had a major breakthrough by finally admitting she hated her work situation. It turns out, being a "dependent personality" wasn't her vibe, and trying to force herself into a regular job was literally making her immobile.

  • The "Sorest Thorn": Jane’s physical symptoms were a direct result of her conscious mind finally grappling with the "work situation." Seth notes: "The feelings were responsible for the blocking mentioned in our last session, and represent the plucking of the sorest thorn from his flesh, symbolically."
  • Ancestral Baggage: Jane was fighting some serious family ghosts. Her grandfathers and father were all about that "work for yourself" life. On the Irish side, working for others was seen as "degradation." No wonder she felt like a failure taking a nursery school job!
  • The Saratoga "Non-Trip": Even though Jane didn't actually go to her 20th high school reunion in Saratoga, just thinking about going helped her discharge long-withheld energy. She faced the "Saratoga problem" with her mother and the past without even leaving her living room. Talk about a travel hack.
  • The ESP Class Pivot: Seth suggests Jane ditch the job-hunting panic and put that energy into her own ESP classes. He says: "Ruburt should expect to do well, and he shall. Patience and stubbornness can also be used here in this endeavor..."

The "Don't Eat This" List

Before the session, Robert spent the afternoon playing with a pendulum to figure out which foods were messing with Jane’s system. Seth confirmed the results were spot-on, noting that when you're stressed, your body uses food in "destructive ways."

  • The Forbidden Snacks: If Jane is feeling the psychic heat, she needs to ghost these foods:
    • Fried foods of any kind (yes, even French fries and doughnuts).
    • Chocolate in any form—cake, pie, candy, you name it. (Though Jane's pendulum said "dry malt mixes" are cool because they have no "emotional charge").
    • Tomatoes (except on pizza or in chili—because even the universe likes a good pizza exception).
    • Mushrooms, olives, beer, and ice cream.
    • Lemons, garlic, and canned grapefruit juice.
  • The 80% Rule: Normally, these foods only cause about 15% of Jane's physical symptoms. But when she’s "sensitized" (stressed out), they account for a whopping 80%.
  • The Cure: Seth is clear—cutting out the snacks helps, but it won't fix the root. "The inner problems must be recognized and solved. Then the foods will no longer be a grave matter of concern."

Final Vibes

Seth wraps up by telling Joseph there's no blame to go around. They are just facing "challenges set" for them. The goal is to focus on the future joyfully and tap into that "tremendous energy" available for their new projects.

Stay chill, keep your energy clear, and maybe skip the chocolate cake if you're feeling stressed!
