Making a Midwife

35. Abby - Third year - direct entry

Listen Later

This week we meet Abby, a third year direct entry student from Victoria. Abby is incredibly passionate about midwifery and loves all things midwifery. Abby has a very interesting journey to midwifery - despite knowing she wanted to be a midwife during her school years, she went on to complete a Bachelor of Global Studies and travelled through Europe, India, Africa and even Norway, before returning to her passion and enrolling in a Bachelor of Midwifery. Finding Continuity of Care Experiences can be challenging for some students, Abby set up a web page for people to learn more about her before signing up for a student. Her website allows birthing people to learn about continuity of care, provides resources for women and also a section for birthing people to leave feedback for Abby. Take a look for yourself, it is far more inviting than our University's boring brochure!

Abby also talks through volunteering for 'Birth for Humankind' - an organisation which connects vulnerable women with people who can provide continuity of care and act as a birth support for the woman - https://birthforhumankind.org/
