#35: Access Birding with Freya McGregor

This episode’s guest was Freya McGregor who started Access Birding which works towards helping birding locations, such as nature centers, state parks, and county parks, design or retrofit more accessible environments, and to upskill and empower program managers, staff, volunteers, bird outing leaders, and fellow birders to be more welcoming and inclusive. Her work is very important because more than 61 million Americans live with a disability. You can check out more about Access Birding at www.accessbirding.com.

Also, Freya formely served as an occupational therapist with a clinical background in blindness and low vision services and she applies several aspects of her occupational therapy work to Access Birding. And currently, she is writing a book titled, ‘A Field Guide to Accessible Birding in North America’ which will be published by Princeton University Press. Lastly, she is also a Research Associate at Virginia Tech University working on projects related to access, inclusion, disability, birding, and using birding as a therapeutic tool.
