35: Capulin Volcano National Monument: A Perfect Cinder Cone in an Unexpected Place

Listen Later

Today, we’re heading to the American Southwest where the Great Plains meet the Rocky Mountains to explore Capulin Volcano National Monument in New Mexico.  We explore the natural beauty of the area, learning about the formation and geological history, its Indigenous heritage, other people of the park's history, the diverse plants and animals that inhabit the area, the park's establishment, how to access the park, and work through a Junior Ranger activity together.

Junior Rangers are explorers, learning all about the park’s ecosystems, plants and animals, and how to protect nature.  The Junior Ranger program is not just for kids; it's for the young, and the young at heart!
