Pressure applied internally and externally to a group of individually gifted people can have terrible consequences.  Known as Groupthink after the Challenger disaster shows how frequent such events occur.  One can apply groupthink to several parts of financial as one characteristic is the over-supply of hubris, money and testosterone, but it also comes out in companies such as Boeing.  The current rush for academic teams to develop the vaccine for covid-19 has all the hall-marks of another groupthink event with potential far wider and negative consequences.
