Dmx had this signature raspy growl that I had never heard from another artist. It was so unique; it was original. It was simply stunning to hear something so different than what was being played on the radio at the time. You know, stuff like the Nsync, The Backstreet Boys, and P. Diddy. We, as rap fans, had a massive hole in our hearts with the death of some legendary icons like Tupac and Biggie, and here was DMX to fill it.

All creative work builds upon something that came before it. DMX just did that, but we also know the goal in being original is to adapt what is useful, reject what is useless and add what is specifically your own
