#36: What Is The Triangular Theory Of Love? (HINT: It's Not A Love Triangle)

Listen Later

Commitment is on the mind. Tyler breaks down the triangular theory of love after Chase explains some marital struggles his friends are facing. Tyler shares a few examples of each type of love and how it works throughout a relationship in phases. Chase shares a stellar homemade joke.

The Triangular Theory of Love was developed by psychologist Robert Sternberg in the 1980s. According to the theory, love comprises three main components: intimacy, passion, and commitment. Intimacy encompasses feelings of closeness, trust, and emotional connection with another person. Passion involves the physical attraction and sexual desire that individuals experience towards their partners. Commitment refers to the decision to maintain a long-term relationship and work through challenges together. Sternberg suggests that different combinations of these three components can result in different types of love, such as infatuation, romantic love, and companionate love. The Triangular Theory of Love has been influential in the study of relationships and has helped to deepen our understanding of the complex nature of love.
