An experienced leader in academic and industry AI settings with a history of leading innovative research and development teams resulting in scientific insights and revenue-generating products. Twenty-five years’ experience researching and applying Artificial Intelligence, natural language processing, machine learning, educational technology, clinical assessment, team cognition, and cognitive modeling. Planned and developed projects, obtained funding, performed budgeting, managed projects and personnel, and reported results through journal articles, conference papers, talks to advisory boards, and interviews with the press. Maintained an innovative work environment and ensured the transfer of projects to engineering and operational staff for commercial implementation. Invented and patented technology and then co-founded a company that resulted in the acquisition, commercialization, and use of the technology by tens of millions of students annually. Obtained and managed annual internal corporate R&D budgets as well as Federal grant/contracts as PI or Co-PI Published over 150 research articles, chapters, and books with over 15,000 citations. Mentored graduate students as a tenured Professor and trained corporate staff as a small business owner and as Vice President of Research of a large corporation. Excellent skills in new product innovation, research to implementation, budgeting, project planning, technology acquisition, grant and contract writing, staffing and management, speaking, and presentations.
