Embodied by Grace

37. Am I a Judgmental Christian?

Listen Later

Today Melissa speaks on a topic that has been plaguing her personal life lately: Judgment. She discusses both feeling judged and judging others, and how she thought that becoming a Christian would make her less judgmental -- but now she just finds herself judging others in different ways. She shares some Biblical Truth about how we are to conduct our lives as believers, as well as a reminder that God's grace is sufficient for when we fall short.

Verses from this episode:

“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” ~ Matthew‬ ‭7‬:‭1‬-‭5‬

‭“There is one Lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. Who are you to judge another?” ~ James‬ ‭4‬:‭12‬

‭“You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things." ~ Romans‬ ‭2‬:‭1‬

‭“for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:” ~ Romans‬ ‭3‬:‭23‬-‭24‬

“And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;" ~ Philippians‬ ‭1‬:‭9‬ ‭

Romans 14

A Message from Melissa:

“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.” (1 Thess.‬ ‭5‬:‭21‬): Study the Scripture for yourself and remember that I am just a person sharing the Gospel. I make mistakes. I don't explain the Word of God in a way that will resonate with everyone. I am not going to get it right all the time, and nor will any teacher, preacher, YouTuber, or pastor. I believe we can learn so much from each other, but no person's teaching can replace getting into the Bible yourself. As Christians let's focus more on the truth that unites us -- that we are saved by grace through faith because of what Christ did for us on the cross -- rather than on the details meant to divide us. Thank you for being here, and thank you for giving me grace.
