Gender identity and sexuality in adolescents is a topic that is coming up big time in homes around the world. People in some areas are scared of this conversation, and in others, the majority of LGBTQ adolescents are met with open hearts and minds. 

The belief that all girls are born with girl parts and must be attracted to boys, and vice versa is archaic. There has always been a range of gender and sexuality, but in 2022 these topics are on the surface and out in the open. 

I believe this is another example of how this generation of adolescents is waking us up.

As I say in this discussion, I am not an expert, but I am an ally. My intention here is to start a surface-level education for all of us around gender and sexuality. Because here is what I know deep in my bones: when you remove all the external features, gender, status, personality, and sexuality - your kid is a being - equal to you and me. They deserve the love, respect, and safety that all beings deserve.

If you're uncomfortable - it's ok. For so many parents, this is very new information and you may have a lot of fear and questions. Simply listen in to learn and open your mind and heart, so we can show up and love our early adolescent kids exactly as they are. This is the greatest gift we can give them.
