#38: Keep on Dreamin'

Media Molecule, one of Sony's most intriguing first-party studios, finally released the long in development "Dreams" out of early access and onto store shelves on Valentine's Day. Unlike the usual software you purchase for PlayStation 4, Dreams isn't a game, but a user-generated content creation suite that happens to let you *make* games, among other things. Best known as the creators of the LittleBigPlanet series, the team isn't new to creating experiences that leverage its community to create, share, and play, but it's certainly the first time they've put out a product that doesn't really have a "game" in it at all. Dreams really is more of a development tool akin to Unity or Unreal, a far cry from MM's past efforts of quirky platformers with friendly mascots. And while we can certainly describe what Dreams is, we can't clearly foresee what it might become. The BioShock Bug continues to spread this week as Travis joins the others in revisiting Rapture yet again, news of the costly materials going into PlayStation 5 gives us further insight into what we'll be coughing up to Sony this fall, a couple of the biggest names at BioWare are founding a new studio to escape the "corporate" vibes of EA, Geoff Keighley is the next big name to say "adios" to E3, and Need for Speed heads back to Criterion Games after its short, but fruitful, stint with Ghost Games.
