38 Robert Collins - Trade Show Installer / Union President (Artimus Pyle / Conquest For Death / Fuckface / What Happens Next? / No Statik / Shit Coffins )
When Robert Collins moved away from Oklahoma in the early 90s to play in bands in the Bay Area and Milwaukee, he connected with a growing group of trade show installers recruited from early Gilman Street volunteers. Robert and his wife Karoline rose up the ranks together over the years, helping to recruit new punk rock talent to this niche career, and in 2017 he was elected president of his local union. In this episode we talk about the attraction of punks to the field, as well as why many are well suited for both the hard work and the ability to figure out logistics and get the job done. Somehow we end up comparing this scenario to Dave’s idea that all Medieval Times Knights are also in power metal bands which may or may not be true, but we’d like to think the world sometimes just works that perfectly.
