39 - Dr. Oronhyatekha: Canada’s Second First Nation Doctor

In this episode, Corus Entertainment’s AM 980 News radio anchor discuss Dr. Oronhyatekha who was Canada’s second First Nations doctor from the Six Nations. Dr. O, as he was affectionally named, overcame great odds, an Indigenous Residential School and racism to become a doctor. He gave back to his community in so many ways, and it is estimated that 10,000 people came to pay their last respects as he lay in state in Massey Hall in Toronto, ON Canada. Dr. O’s story is highlighted in the book, “Dr. Oronhyatekha: Security, Justice and Equality,” by Michelle A. Hamilton and Keith Jamieson.
