This week, we saw big news regarding where and when racing can take place in Louisiana and Maryland as the Louisiana Racing Commission continued to deny Delta Downs from running night races due to unsafe conditions caused by the LED lighting system. Meanwhile, the Maryland Racing Commission gave the go-ahead to Laurel Park to resume racing after they reconstructed a portion of their homestretch to make it safer for horses following a series of breakdowns in November. In trainer news, we await the sentencing of former trainer Jorge Navarro who has pled guilty to a variety of charges regarding his treatment of the horses under his care and defrauding owners, bettors, and the entire industry by supplementing his horses with illegal substances. When it comes to horses, there is some great news as Hot Rod Charlie was named the 2021 Secretariat Vox Populi Award winner for the favorite and most beloved horse of the year.
