Okay, this episode started out being all about teenagers: what we thought it would be like vs. what it is really like. But God had another plan, as usual. As the photo on my fridge says: "I plan. God laughs." This is just as true with parenting as anything else. I planned to be a mom from the age of 5. Yes, it is the only thing I was ever truly sure of. When I was a young 20-something, I read "all the books" on parenting. I knew what kind of parent I wanted to be and how I was going to discipline, encourage, educate, and entertain my children. Oh yes, I was going to be the perfect parent with children who never caused a scene. Yeah, right. Insert God's laughter here!
I want you to remember one thing: you are the parent of your child(ren) on purpose! God doesn't make mistakes. And you can TRUST HIM with your children's hearts. The moment you surrender your parenting to Him is the moment that brings true freedom. Trust Him with all of you and all of them. He is a faithful God and fulfills all of His promises. Continue to plant seeds of faith and trust in God in your kids' lives and you will see fruit.
Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways submit to Him and He will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
If you do try to go it alone with your own knowledge base, you will fail more times and feel completely defeated. But if you trust in God and let Him guide you, you will not feel lost when you do fail. We will fall short, we are not perfect. But we have God to rely on and help us fill in the gaps where we fall short. He has infinite wisdom and is ready to pour it out generously to those who ask (James 1:5). Don't be afraid to ask, friends.
Thanks for listening to today's episode. Please share it with others who need to be reassured and reminded that God is there for them and that surrendering to Him is not a weakness but a strength.
