Happy Fri-yay! And welcome to Episode 4 of the Kiss My Curvy Assets Podcast, friends!
This week on the podcast, I have another incredibly special person here to share with you. She is breaking barriers all over the place. Yes, babe! Shatter all those ceilings!
Meet my good friend, Linda Feuerhelm. Born in small-town Alberta, this adventurer knew she was destined to see amazing things. A troubled youth, and a defiant adolescent she seemed to fit in more with the boys and let's be fair, they had cooler toys growing up, that's when she learned to weld. Linda went to school for Broadcasting, she was the first-ever first-year student to interview a major political party leader: Former Canadian Prime Minister, Stephen Harper. As 9/11 unfolded, this soon-to-be mom pivoted from corporate crime-fighter to truck driver and company owner. It was when the economy started crashing in 2007 that Linda found herself telling jokes, which led her to move to British Columbia, Canada, and work for Carnival Cruise lines. It was here this adventurer found a better way to see the world, by boat, with a transportation background, she then pursued her Captains ticket and is still working on bigger and bigger tickets.
As a woman in trades, she noticed she was always one of few. Never as much as when she joined ships. Statistically, women make up 1-2% of the Marine industry and generally only work as officers, Linda worked her way up as a deckhand. She is a mentor to all up-and-coming mariners, especially women. She recently accepted a teaching position at BCIT to emphasize women in the marine industry. She holds a certificate for feature film writing from UCLA but she doesn’t only write strong female leads, she is one. A member of 2 unions, a Longshoremen and an Operating Engineer, and a strong advocate for equality of women in the workforce, Linda's mission is to empower women to step into their power and do the things they think they cannot do.
Key takeaways from today's episode:
1. Equal rights are equal rights, across the board. Everyone should be treated equally.
2. Don't tolerate shit behavior, period. Leave the abusive jobs, relationships, and friendships. Speak up more and stand up for yourself and for one another.
3. Seek adventure, you will never go wrong! Besides, you'll have some kickass stories to share with everyone!
4. Do the hard things. The things nobody wants to do or thinks you can do. Be the babe who breaks all barriers, because you can. Because you're a fierce AF rockstar who knows she is meant for more!
PS. if you loved this episode, share, share, share away! Subscribe + Rate + Leave us a review as it helps my message get in front of more women who need this. More women who need to know that they can do it all, they can rock it all, they can be the bold, beautiful, badass babe they are, and also cheer one another on as they continue to break all barriers and ceilings! More women who aren't afraid to take up space or be their fruit-loop-selves in a world full of cheerios! Bring on the weird, the confident, the powerful!
