A reading from C.S. Lewis on the foolishness we exhibit when we consider ourselves "more intelligent, more enlightened, more advanced" than those of other ages. The reality is we are affected and shaped by the subtle motions of history, culture, politics and religion.  Unless we spend time in the old books (especially God's book), we will remain defenseless against the cultural assumptions of our own age.
